Listing Description

On a recent trip to New York we went to 1Hotel Brooklyn Bridge for a Saturday night out, with cocktails. We had such a good time at Harriet’s Lounge bar (accessible as long as you’re on time for your table booking!!!), we decided we must try 1Hotel Mayfair.

Described by Condé Nast as a “sustainable sanctuary slotting naturally among London’s oldest hospitality icons” i.e. it’s neighbours are The Ritz and Browns Hotel. The 1Hotel chain is the wealthier eco tourists delight as their mission is ‘sustainable luxury hotels’.

glass windows with brown metal frames covered in greenery makes 1Hotel stand out in London's Mayfair
Glass Windows Surrounded by ‘Real’ Greenery Makes 1Hotel Stand Out in London’s Mayfair. The Sustainable Luxury of the Hotel is Also Very Accessible.

We had already tried their restaurant, Dovetale, for a set lunch – a very much cheaper way to savour the delicious food from 2 Michelin Starred chef Tom Sellers (read our review of his flagship Restaurant Story). So we knew the hotel entrance was very accessible and the welcome relaxed yet efficient.

Check in was not at the desk but by the lounge chairs and there was a flavoured water station nearby. Luckily after too much water the accessible toilet is well situated near the entrance, checkin and the lifts. It’s fitted with good colour contrast of white porcelain against dark wood walls and black grab bars. Despite the cord being tied up it was a good experience!

The Ground Floor Accessible Toilet is Near Reception, The Lifts, Restaurant & Bar. Three Bars Around the Toilet and Cord Was Tied Up – So nearly Perfect!
There are Also Grab Rails Around The Sink
The Bar at 1Hotel is Very Cool, Great Music and Later Some Evenings There’s a DJ. The English Shampers is Well Worth a Taste.
Flat Access to Tom Sellers Bright & Tasty Restaurant, Dovetale.

All of the ground floor has flat wooden surfaces and the occasional sunken carpet plus soft furnishings, such as leather sofas and boucle covered chairs, ensure that noise levels are low. Greenery is everywhere adding to the cool, calm yet buzzy atmosphere.

There’s braille signage and the rooms are accessed via lifts leading to well lit carpeted corridors. On entering the room there’s another water station with a living wall of moss adding to the feeling you’re somewhat in tune with nature, even if a flight severely dented your carbon footprint. The walk in showers are as described – no hidden steps! – and it’s a very neutral palette with black grab rails where you need them.

Corridors All Have Beige Low `pile Carpets Inset to Wooden Surrounds. Easy to Manoeuvre & Wheel/Walk On.
A Living Wall Greets You on Entrance to The Bedroom. Positioned Above a Water Dispenser
Same Neutral/Beige Bedroom Furniture & Room to Manoeuvre
Shower With 4 Grab Rails Around a Black Wall Mounted Seat
The Black Shower Seat is Beside the Hand Held Shower and the Controls & 4 Grab Bars
Black Sink Unit at Wheelchair height
Black Grab Rails Around toilet……
And Adjacent Sink

In conclusion this is the hippest of hotels and you don’t need to be a resident or worry about its accessibility, to enjoy. However you do need a well stuffed bank account. They get 3 BBSTicks.
