Listing Description

A holiday in Sardinia is planned for August this year for BBS Founder, Fiona & her wheelchair. As part of Italy she assumed that accessibility would be variable, as evidenced on a previous trip to Milan………..

In Milan it was apparent that even the best hotels had a very different view on accessibility compared to the UK & US – namely the weird one grab rail rule!!

Take a look at the Disabled toilet at The Armani Hotel, below and you’ll see what we mean….

Hotel Armani Milan, With The Typical Italian ‘One Grab Rail’ Design! Not Sure Why The Other Bars Are Behind The Table.

However the hotel did have good access and the most stylish bar, The Bamboo Bar, adorned with the beautifully attired Milanese. One of the best places in Milan for a cocktail. We gave the bar 2.5 BBS Ticks for style and access even though the toilet was for the ambidextrous.

We asked the hotel for details on their accessible rooms and they said….

“As far as the rooms are concerned, two of them are dedicated to our disabled guests, and they are located on the fifth floor of the Armani building (all areas of the hotel are accessible through lifts). As far as the other features are concerned, we provide a wheelchair for those guests who require it as well as a “removable” chair that can be put inside the shower.”

The Pool/Spa Doesn’t Have a Lift But How Stylish It Looks & There Are Grab Rails
Hopefully The Accessible Rooms Look as Good as This.

For style the bar at Armani Hotel is simply the best but the grab rails in the disabled toilet let it down so 2.5 BBS Tick and would love to give them 3!!!

We haven’t seen the accessible rooms but we can only assume they have the Italian standard 1 grab rail. They also get an unaudited 2.5 BBS Ticks. If anyone has been and can verify this please contact us here
