Listing Description

This week I’m going to be brief for no other reason than I’m hurting from the Man Utd defeat by Man City! I need to lick my wounds with a few drinks.

First I went to the newly refurbished Avenue restaurant & bar from DandDLondon, in St James’ Piccadilly – ‘Where Manhattan Meets Mayfair’. It was always accessible but getting between tables could be cramped. I’m happy to report that the recent re-furb into high class American dining is a great success. Easy to get around and the tables are a great height for a wheelchair. On top of that the new American style menu is very tasty especially the ‘Monkfish with Spring Vegetable Succotash’ (that’s corn and spring beans) and the Clam Chowder looks amazing served in a sourdough bowl.

The decor is light but not too bright so no need for too much makeup, thank goodness. There’s a step at the entrance and they have a portable ramp if needed. There are low seats near the bar if you just want to drink and the disabled toilet is on the same level within the ladies. Taxis can park easily out side and some disabled spaces are available in nearby Jermyn St. Oh and the staff are well trained in helping people who need extra attention! A well deserved 2.5 nearly 3 BBS Ticks.

There’s also been a lot of interesting Tweets @bluebadgestyle, including a long conversation with the Science Museum re their inaccessible 3rd floor disabled toilet (see the review here that caused the activity) and a new device for children with disabilities that enables them to walk with their parents. I’d like to do this but I’m not sure who I’d attach myself to?? Ryan Gosling will do!!

Next I went to the hairdressers for highlights to brighten my winter plumage – when will it be spring?? It made me wonder, when are they going to invent a way for wheelchair users to get their hair washed? I looked on the web and other than home visits, going to a salon is difficult at best, although my hairdressers are very adept at washing my now golden locks. However it’s still a struggle to get me to basin height and uncomfortable for me. I came across this device on YouTube which looks brilliant:

Does anyone know of other ways of getting your hair washed at a hair salon? Let us know.

See you next week a Martini beckons………..
