Update on Big Chill Sept. 2013 We went and access is via the bins at the side which have to be moved before you can get down the very narrow passage. They also had a bike in the disabled toilet. They were very helpful and it’s definitely an under 30s place but we have to downgrade them to 2 BBS Ticks

The Big Chill in Bristol is part of the brand which has a record label and has previously hosted the Big Chill music festival.

It’s no surprise, based on visiting the bar in Bristol, that the London version of the Big Chill is just off Brick Lane. This bar has a very ‘Shoreditchy’, quietly cool, feel about it which it pulls off quite well.

The bar has a broad assortment of furniture, which even includes a set of DJ decks being put on an table made from an old sink. The walls are covered elaborately with decorative murals and old vinyl sleeves. It’s a stylish and cool place to spend some time.

There’s a good selection of drinks on the menu. They serve a good range of beers and ciders as well as a choice of reasonably priced cocktails. There are, as you might expect given the bar’s links to a music label, loads of music events going on here in the evenings.

The access is good. The main entrance is up some steps but you can go through another exit, just to the side of that, which is step free. There are different levels once you get inside which means that you may encounter a problem step or two – so in terms of access, the Big Chill isn’t perfect but it is pretty good.

They have a disabled toilet inside.

There’s also a garden which is accessible. It looked like it would be a really nice place to wile away the hours on a warm summer’s evening. However, when we were there, it was anything but a warm summer’s evening, so we stayed inside.

The Big Chill in Bristol gets a provisional 2.5 BBS Ticks.
