Bunga Bunga is described as ”An Englishman’s Italian, Bar, Pizzeria and Karaoke”. Bunga Bunga has a meaning in Italian which is unclear (suffice to say it is used in conjunction with Silvio Berlusconi and his sex exploits.)

It’s located just over Battersea Bridge and apparently attracts a young ’20 something crowd’ from Chelsea. Operated by Charlie Gilkes and Duncan Stirling i.e. The Inception Group, who are behind the ‘real’ Chelsea bars of Bart’s and Lady Thatcher-inspired, ’80s-themed nightspot Maggie’s. This is the first that is ‘less able’ accessible. Charlie Gilkes says ‘We’ve created Bunga Bunga with a big sense of humour as a really fun place to drink, eat, sing and be entertained’.

Open til 2pm most of action is downstairs where they have the food (pizzas), cocktails, Karaoke and dancing. There is apparently (we’ve not audited yet), a fully equipped disabled toilet downstairs but the club & L’osservatorio (observatory of the London skyline) are upstairs. However, the staircase, although steep, is wide enough for a wheelchair to be carried up and the staff appear to be keen to accommodate all!

The style is everything Italian but with a comic twist e.g. the toilets have Italian language tapes playing on repeat. There is also an array of interesting features and art, such as ‘ lamps fashioned from upside down Vespa helmets’.

Certainly sounds a fun place to go and accessible to boot – that’s the ‘boot of Italy’!!??

Bunga Bunga gets a provisional 2.5 BBS Ticks & well done for choosing a venue that is disabled friendly!!!!!!!
