Listing Description

The Diagonal Hotel, in Barcelona, is a stunning modern four star hotel, designed by local architect Juli Capella. It stands out for its black and white facade, gorgeous decor inside and, although it’s not in the city centre, its prime location.

The hotel is a little out of the way, in the business area of town, but it’s just next to the Torre Agbar. If you’ve ever been to Barcelona, you’ll probably recognise the Torre as the skyscraper that looks just like The Gherkin, except maybe a little more phallic (just saying). It’s a building that has confused many a Londoner but can be a useful reference point for finding the hotel.

The hotel’s design features the latest design trends, wood furniture, contrasted tones and refined lines that, all combined, provide an elegant and peaceful atmosphere. There is a very trendy lobby bar, a modern restaurant and a rooftop pool with truly spectacular views of the city.

The access is generally pretty good, as you’d hope for from a hotel in the runner up of the inaugural EU Access City award. The entrance is not a great start, with a couple of steps up to a revolving door, but there are alternatives which staff can help you to find. Once inside, all communal areas, including the terrace, are accessible through ramps or lifts.

There are 4 adapted double rooms with space to move around in, height-adjustable beds with manual controls and writing desks with space for a wheelchair. Their bathrooms have floor level, wheel in showers and hand rails.

A slight concern is that a lot of the hotel has carpeted floors, which may be a bit of a difficulty for getting around.

We give The Diagonal Hotel a provisional 2.5 BBS Ticks.
