Listing Description

Gleneagles Town House ’boutique’ hotel/members club, was recommended by a hotelier friend. It’s the first by Gleneagles in the town of Edinburgh and its accessibility welcomes disabled people.

They describe the rooms as ‘Handsomely beautiful, classically charming ‘ and ‘a contemporary take on Georgian elegance and add an indulgent measure of homely comfort’. They sent these images of their accessible rooms and they do look rather luxurious,

The Bedroom Looks to Have Plenty of Room
We’re Sure They’ll Move Furniture If Too Crowded
The Bathroom Mirror Looks Too High for Seated or Small Users. Plenty of Rails & Looks Like There’s a Small Ramp to The Shower
The Toilet Looks Perfectly Accessible With Multiple Grab Bars

They said, ‘our accessible rooms are located on the ground floor of the property and are fully accessible….They do have grab rails in the shower and next to the toilet. The entrance to the hotel and restaurant are all accessible via a stair lift on the front steps’.

The Spence restaurant occupies the old banking hall and is a place for ‘social gathering’ and all day dining. The Lamplighters bar is on the roof terrace, we don’t know if its accessible but it does have great views of the city. It’s ‘refined revelry is open until the wee hours, exclusive to members and hotel guests’,

The Spence Restaurant is Accessible & Looks Plush.
Lamplighters Bar We Hope is Accessible Too
Reception is Somewhat Accessible With Bedrooms on the Ground Floor.

Condé Nast said in their review,

‘Non-members can dine in the restaurant (spectacular), stay in the rooms (delightful), and get squiffy in the rooftop bar (terrific). In fact, there are only a few things that overnighting non-members cannot do. Hanging out in the first-floor members-only lounge, the Note Burning Room, happens to be one of them; and this is a great pity, because the Note Burning Room is absolutely and without question the loveliest room in the entire place’.

Rooms start at £295/night so a not cheap but not as expensive as some in Edinburgh. The only thing they don’t do is tell people about their welcome for disabled people with an Access Gallery or statement!!

As far as we can tell this looks very accessible and we give them a provisional/unaudited 2.5 BBS Ticks and a nomination for a Blue Badge Access Award 24/25.
