Listing Description

The Greyhound on The Test in Stockbridge has been awarded the Michelin Pub of the Year, 2014 as “the food is great and the bedrooms are charming”. This 500 year old pub went through a major refurbishment in March 2013 including a new bar area and seven newly designed bedrooms.

Zoe Williams, The Telegraph said

“Location and décor were charming enough that the food would have had to be considerably worse, were I to dis-recommend it – none the less, it spans a broad range from plain bad to utterly wonderful”.

However The Guardian reviewer was ‘impressed’ with The Hotel as

“it was worth it for the food alone”.

Rebecca Burr editor Michelin Guide GB & Ireland said “no one has to put up with bad food in a pub anymore” and when I called they said they had no disabled facilities but they were ‘thinking about it’. Maybe it should have been part of the refurbishment but obviously the council planning department for Hampshire County Council & Test Valley Borough Council gave them some sort of exemption!?

We’re glad it’s on The Greyhound’s agenda if not that of The Michelin Guide. Access is good apparently but obviously no disabled room or toilets. They get a provisional 2 BBS Ticks as the food and ambience sound good – will go soon but if anyone has been let us have your comments!
