If you read my site you know I couldn’t go to Val Do Lobo in Portugal last year as everything was booked. This year we booked a villa North of Lisbon in Foz do Arelho which is a small vilage near the stunning Obidos Lagoon. This area of Portugal is relatively unspoilt and unlike the Algarve. It’s north of Lisbon on the Silver (Atlantic) Coast of Portugal the nearest town is Caldas de Rainha but we only went there for the supermarket. There were plenty of activities for the five seventeen year old boys who were in our party and the Villa Casa do Lago was lovely and very ‘Miami’.

The disabled room had plenty of space and the ensuite bathroom had a good disabled toilet and shower (although it perhaps needed one more rail), the sink was adjustable as were the wardrobe rails. Access in a wheelchair around the villa was good although I didn’t get into the pool, even though it was heated. Not sure how I would have gained access??

The best restaurant we went to, which equals anything in London, was A Lareira where the seafood platter is the dish to go for. We had a good time but the weather was a bit too cool for myself and my sister – we wanted a tan – so for the last two days we chased the sun and went to Vilamoura and The Lake Resort (see my November review).

The portable bed rails (see previous post) came into their own as I could get in and out of bed unaided both in the villa and the hotel. The room was good at the hotel but needed grab rails and a seat in the shower (I had to use my wheelchair as a seat). Access to the pool could be better along with some sort of ramp allowing access through the patio doors between the hotel and pool area. Lake Resort please take note!

There were plenty of outdoor activities in Casa Do Lago for the ‘Boys’ – golf, cycling, jumping in and out of the pool tec. Vilamoura also had activities but maybe not so healthy as this video shows Hampton Boy Rap ?!.

Should also mention that easyJet are much improved in their treatment of people with disabilities – couldn’t fault them and I will definitely use them again.

A great adventure and Villa Casa do Lago gets 3BBS Ticks and the Lake Resort gets 2.5BBS Ticks. Restaurant A Lareira gets 2.5 BBS Ticks.
