They are still “Bringing cocktails, live music and a touch of old school glamour to Shoreditch for over 10 years”………….”Unfortunately the bar is not accessible to wheelchair users without assistance. We are one floor below ground level down a staircase. our staff are happy to carry wheelchair users down the stairs. Please let us know in advance via email”

Looks cool and with live music it’s worth a visit. A very trendy 2 BBSTicks as long as you don’t mind being carried. Unfortunately electric wheelchair users will have problems as difficult to carry!.

Nightjar is a speakeasy style bar close to Old Street Station in London. They are extremely dedicated to producing the best cocktails possible – rumour has it that the team turn up several hours before opening time to prepare. The drinks are divided into different eras: Pre-Prohibition, Prohibition and Post-War as well as Nightjar Signatures. In 2012, Nightjar came third on the list of the World’s 50 Best Bars – voted for by hundreds of leading bar professionals. They said

“The Nightjar’s namesake is a lovely little bird, and in the case of this bar, the bird is pretty, open all night, comes with an admirable work ethic and serves a tasty beverage, making it wife material.” A bit strange really but they seem to like it.

The decor inside creates the image of a speakeasy and there is an eclectic mix of live music on most nights.

There is a bit of an accessibility problem with Nightjar. Like so many bars it is in a basement so there are stairs to get in and there is no lift or ramp to avoid them. Hopefully, you can be assisted or carried down the stairs if you don’t mind doing that. They do have a proper disabled toilet in the bar, with a sink and mirror at wheelchair height, so they seem to be trying to be accessible.

We really like the look of Nightjar but due to those stairs we’re going to give it a provisional 2 BBS Ticks.
