After completion of a refurbishment started in 2015. The Old Vic changed its access to make it inclusive. They created the following,

‘Key access measures in the new building include: A new large lift giving step-free access to all levels, Power-assisted doors, Hearing induction loops accessible in 70% of the building, Provision of wide doors and generous wide circulation routes, Provision of a low-level countertop in the main bar, Wheelchair accessible WCs, baby change and large accessible WC and shower provided with adult size changing bench (Space for Change), New accessible Green Room with adapted counters and amenities, New cycle parking enabling access to adaptable bicycles, LED lighting designed to minimise glare and provide adequate illumination for vision impaired users and consideration given to all internal finishes, colours and acoustic treatments.’

Theatre stage is ‘in the round’

I can attest to this during a recent visit the access was impeccable. The wheelchair bay is at the front in the stalls and the stage is now ‘in the round’ so you get a great view of the actors. There’s also an assistance guide who brings you ice cream or a drink! They now get 3 BBSTicks

The Old Vic’s disabled access is pretty good there are seats in the stalls with spaces for wheelchairs, just let the box office know when you buy your tickets. You can enter through the side door and a ramp goes straight to the stalls. Disabled parking is nearby and there is an ‘adapted toilet’ is near the entrance to the theatre.

The Old Vic gets 2.5 BBS Ticks as it’s shabbily chic! Well done for being ‘inclusive’ in an old building.
