We were recently asked by The BBC to provide information on good and bad accessible or disabled toilets. This was for ‘Rip Off Britain’ and is due to be aired in April/May. As part of the filming we had to find a good local example of a disabled loo and we chose the one at The Fuller’s Pub, One Over The Ait, located at kew Bridge in West London. This is local to BBS Towers in the area known as N. Kew (AKA Brentford) and was created as part of a new development of flats by The Thames, hence the reference to the nearby Ait (a small island on The Thames).

Even though it’s new it has some style as it has a verandah over the river, a cosy fire at the bar resembling a ski lodge and it serves some good food and wine as well as Fuller’s beer, of course. As a new build they’ve ensured it’s accessible throughout with smooth wood flooring and an internal lift to the upper floor and views of The Thames. This is also where the disabled toilet is located which has all the grab rails, a sink at wheelchair height, an alarm (not tied up) and room to manoeuvre a wheelchair. It doesn’t have an adult changing table but apart from that it’s well designed and has good decor.

The only downside of the pub is it’s on the dark side, not a reference to Star Wars, a guidance for those with partial sight. We’ve awarded them 2.5 BBS Ticks and look out for it on the BBC!
