Listing Description

Pera is a relaxed Mediterranean restaurant in North London. The Epicure Lieutenant popped in to check it out. Here’s what he thought:

I’m a little wary of Upper Street. It’s easy to be seduced by the endless shiny shops and cafes and to come away having spent way more than you planned and feeling vaguely unsatisfied. The word ‘artisan’ crops just a little too much for my taste.

So it’s all the more of a pleasure to welcome newcomer Pera to the street. The day me and my friend Julia had lunch, we were all alone in the restaurant. Feeling ‘reccessiony’ poor we were attracted by the two courses for £8.95 blackboard outside and the bright and unpretentious interior.

I settled for grilled scallops with chorizo, and we both had the salmon fillet as a main. My starter was hot from the grill, skewered and done to perfection with a handy salad garnish. The salmon that followed was just delicious; a generous chunky fillet baked and still moist with good vegetables. The theme of the menu is Greek/Medittereanean with plenty of
fresh fish and grilled dishes.

The service was friendly and keen, and such excellent value. We were both too full for a pudding.

Disabled access to the restaurant is good, as there is a ramp and handrail, but no disabled loos inside which is a negative. However, to be honest, it’s not really a restaurant to linger in for hours.

A welcome addition to the Islington scene that deserves to succeed with its emphasis on value and good fresh healthy food.

Pera gets 2 BBS Ticks for good access and great food.
