Listing Description

I went to Pollen Street Social for lunch as opposed to my previous visit for dinner. The food was again superb and I must recommend the ‘Spanish Egg’ as it was an interpretation of an English Breakfast. I had a hangover so it was just what I needed but a lot more refined and tasty than a normal ‘full English’. It was a slow cooked egg under a ‘spume’ of potato with fried Chorizo.

I should also add that the ambiance is even better in daylight. They have  3 Blue Badge Ticks.

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

I and Sartorial Lieutenant No.8 went to Pollen Street Social this week. I was really looking forward to it as I loved Jason Atherton’s food at Maze. As always I checked access etc. beforehand and all OK. I arrived with my friendly taxi driver Mick and panicked when we saw three stairs to get in. No.8 was there to meet me, under instructions not to be late, and I shouldn’t have worried as access was through the kitchen – all on one level. Now, in my time I’ve been through lots of kitchens and back offices to gain access, but I have to say this was the cleanest and most polite. Even Jason was there and said good evening – a great moment for me.

We were seated with the  minimum of fuss and promptly offered drinks – always a good thing in my book. I had scallops to start, with horseradish shavings on the side – tasty, and No.8 had the salmon which, I was told, was also delicious. We were recommended to order the Cote de Boeuf to share, which we did. It was great although we had to ask for a doggie bag (for a real dog I hasten to add!). The accompanying chips were the best – cooked in duck fat. The wine we ordered was an unoaked chardonnay from Australia which was also brilliant, but I didn’t get the name as No.8 had taken charge by this time. I think it was Chardonnay Clonale.

The ambiance was buzzy and on occasion smelt of charcoal – some dishes were cooked at the table. We didn’t get to the bar area until closing time and it was  a little empty, so I do want to go back and have some tapas there. The disabled toilet seemed good, however I didn’t have time to try it as I was enjoying myself too much.

I will be back not only for the food but also the bar, as its just off Regent Street and handy for post shopping drinks. I should also the add the staff were friendly, efficient and very welcoming.
