Just been whisked away for a romantic evening to South Lodge near Horsham, being a fan of Blue Badge Style I decided to check out their access facilities and report back to HQ! The place was already sounding amazing with Matt Gillan (seen recently on Great British Menu) at the helm of their Michelin star restaurant ‘The Pass” and the elegant Camellia which boasts 2AA Rosettes I knew we wouldn’t starve. (BTW he was robbed on GBM, Editor).

The main reception augured well, large and welcoming with a blazing log fire Georgia checked us in and then offered to take us on a tour of the ‘Pass’ and show us how the rooms have been adapted for their less able guests. Accessing rooms was easy with plenty of wide corridors and no steps or bumps to the public areas. The only place which is a No-Go is the wine bar which is down in the old cellars, but not to worry the main bar with its friendly staff make up for it, offering a wide selection of wines and cocktails. We were shown the bedrooms which are located on the ground or first floor. We viewed a double room on the ground floor it was fantastic. Two queen beds which you just wanted to sink into.

The room and bathroom offered all facilities imaginable even down to 2 sinks at different heights although a grab rail might be useful by the sink. Otherwise it had all the usual grab rails and pull cords including a huge shower which could accommodate a tank never mind a wheel-chair with water jets coming out at all angles and a low bath with built in flat TV screen to watch while you soaked. There was plenty of room to manoeuvre about. The room offered a pillow menu including a ‘vibrating’ pillow for guests with hearing impairment in case there is a fire during the night. There were pull cords and light controls by each bed and like all of their rooms you have the ‘Bose’ sound system, iPod docking station and ‘home Made Muffins’ with real coffee and a cafetiere, we decided to swap rooms!

Tour and audit over we headed to the bar and dinner where a feast awaited us. The setting is stunning, the rooms cosy and sumptuous and the establishment run by a team of staff who couldn’t do enough for us, all so friendly and attentive thanks for a great stay.
