SQ Restaurant, Braunton. Accessible With a Disabled Toilet on the Ground Floor
No Lift to Upstairs – looks Bright & Airy With Wood Flooring

Update 2026:

(Following a recent comment from a disabled customer (See below), Squires  have confirmed the following re accessibility:

‘We have a ramp that enables standard wheelchair users to access the toilet level and enter the toilet room. There are 2 toilets in each. None have handrails if you require that. In our restaurant opposite SQ, we have a proper disabled toilet. ‘

SQ restaurant can be found here

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Squires, 2015

An accessible & Popular Fish Restaurant, right in the centre of of the village. Braunton is more well known for its surf shops and proximity to the endless sands of Saunton, but this local fish restaurant draws a more mixed crowd from all over Devon. And I can believe it judging by the queues to get in at 6:30 pm. Fully disabled friendly. “Carluccio’s type styling, with Devon grade friendliness.”

The entrance and ground floor are accessible via a ramp as there are 2 steps to negotiate, with smooth wooden floors. There’s also a fully equipped disabled toilet. They get 2 BBS Ticks for style & accessibility. Full review here.

Squires Fish & Chip Restaurant is accessible on Ground Floor.

I’m sorry but did you actually go in the accessible toilet as they actually do not have one . As a wheelchair user (small manual wheelchair) I’d booked a table yesterday based on the fact that your website says accessible however when we arrived the staff were particularly unhelpful and could not answer whether they even had an accessible toilet. The regular toilet was then up another step to the bar area and then another step but they do not have one. This is definitely NOT an accessible friendly venue by any stretch and we then ended up leaving as I require this facility with not even an apology. It was a bitterly disappointing experience not at all helped by things like your website who clearly don’t fact check.

Hi Philippa, we did visit Squires in 2015, the date of the review. We will ascertain why there is no longer an accessible toilet. Our site is all about authentication and if a venue has changed we rely on someone telling us. This case is unfortunate and we hope you’ll use us again.

We’ve contacted Squires and they say:

‘In squires, We have a ramp that enables standard wheelchair users to access the toilet level and enter the toilet room. There are 2 toilets in each. None have handrails if you require that.
In our restaurant opposite SQ we have a proper disabled toilet’.
