Listing Description

The Warehouse Project is a bit of a wandering institution on the Manchester club scene. Having originally opened in Boddingtons Brewery before moving to Store Street car park, it reopened last September in Victoria Warehouse. In all three locations the club has attracted incredible line-ups and become one of the best big nights out in the world.

After the most recent move, things are back and bigger than ever both figuratively and literally. Not only is this latest incarnation attracting world renowned DJs and musicians but the new building is also more spacious than the others. In the past Aphex Twin, Annie Mac, Pete Tong, De La Soul, Happy Mondays, Jamiroquai, Basement Jaxx and Dizzee Rascal have all played in the various venues. Coming up they have line-ups featuring the likes of Thom Yorke, The Chemical Brothers, Hot Chip, Disclosure and many more.

2013 was a bit of an up and down year for The Warehouse Project. The club re-entered DJ Magazine’s list of the top 100 nightclubs in the world in 19th place but also made headlines for the wrong reasons after a clubber died during a night there. It was because of some dodgy pills that he’d taken but it still dented the Warehouse Project’s reputation somewhat. A reminder to be careful (Just Say No, whatever you do, don’t and all that).

If you want to get to to The Warehouse Project you need to be either quick or  patient as tickets for this year’s twelve week stint are selling out fast and the venue organisers intend to take a ‘year off’ in 2014, with a scaled back schedule. It does seem like this club just can’t manage to settle down for too long in one place!

It’s good to hear that The Warehouse Project, in its latest setting, seems to be pretty accessible – part of a growing number of nightclubs that think to provide facilities for the less able. They have disabled accessible toilets in the courtyard and internally near the entrance to the venue. The access from the street is step free and we are under the impression that the entire venue is flat inside.

An accessible club with amazing line-ups – we give The Warehouse Project a provisional 2.5 BBS Ticks.
