Listing Description

Wedgwood is a top quality restaurant, hidden in plain sight on Edinburgh’s Royal Mile. It sits in between the touristy shops and attractions, shining as a beacon of good taste in more ways than one.  Set up in 2007 by the eponymous Paul Wedgwood – who appears fairly regularly on TV – Wedgwood serves “fine dining without the pretentiousness”.

Wedgwood was named Restaurant of the Year by Scottish Licensed Trade News in 2010 and 2011. It has that great honour of owning a five star user rating on Time Out’s website (although that is currently based on one rating). It also featured in the 2011 Guardian list of Edinburgh’s best restaurants.

Word has it that the best place to sit is in the upstairs area, which is fortunate because there’s no lift to the basement should less able diners prefer the slightly darker downstairs environment. The restaurant is in an ‘old building’ split into two levels so accessing the lower level can be a problem. There are also a couple of steps to get over in order to enter the restaurant but these a reasonably small and should be negotiable with a bit of effort and assistance. However, there is no disabled toilet inside at all.

So the access at Wedgwood is not really very good but there it is – you know what to expect should you choose to pop in and sample some of the best food Edinburgh has to offer.

Wedgwood gets a provisional 1.5 BBS Ticks.
