Listing Description

We’ve already visited two of Angela Hartnett’s Italian empire restaurants, Cafe Murano Covent Garden and the original Murano restaurant in Mayfair. They were awarded 2 and 3 BBS Ticks respectively; Covent Garden has the now infamous disabled toilet that can’t get a wheelchair through its door! Nevertheless the food is wonderful at both.

To complete the collection there’s Cafe Murano in St. James’s which has the same style of authentic Italian food with a modern twist such as ‘Burrata with Tomatoes & Basil’, ‘Cod with Borlotti Beans & Datterini Tomatoes’ and ‘Rabbit Risotto with Pea Shoots’. The standard of cooking is very good and the ambience reminds you of an upmarket bar in Milan with dark wood and a buzzing bar. We loved it, as the service was not overly intrusive and yet very helpful. Starters average at £5, Primi £11 and Mains at £20.

Cafe Murano St. James's Has Access Issues & No Disabled Toilet But Still Very Definitely Worth a Visit. Floors are Smooth Wood & Well Lit. Despite The Snug Appearance The Acoustics are OK.

There are a number of steps up to the restaurant (2 from the pavement and another 2 inside) and they do have a portable ramp. There is no disabled toilet and the nearest is in the Avenue Restaurant, a block further down St. James’s. Despite the accessibility challenges we would definitely recommend a visit as the whole experience was really enjoyable. As  a result we have given them an audited 2 BBS Ticks.
